Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, Incorporated was established on March 10, 1990 on the San Diego State University campus when a group of Latina women from a variety of backgrounds came together and saw the need to form a group for the purpose of uniting and supporting primarily Latina women. Our objective is to promote members academically, personally, and professionally. Our sisterhood is composed of educated, professional, diverse women committed towards the empowerment of women and the Latinx community. We do this by providing leadership development, academic enrichment programs, community service and activities geared towards the appreciation, promotion, and preservation of our surrounding communities.
Our National Board was established in 1999. The board oversees the functions of the chapters and every year is responsible for organizing the National Convention. Through this board we became an incorporated sorority in 2000. From which in 2001 we joined NALFO, a national umbrella for Latino/a sororities and fraternities. Since, the organization has expanded and there are 18 chapters as of 2022.
